When BMW recently revived its 8 Series after a hiatus of about two decades, a convertible was included in the new lineup. Made for power and beauty, the 8 Series Convertible also offers a stylish way to enjoy a top-down drive on a nice Spring or Summer day.
The compact soft-top roof, designed to create a striking silhouette and provide acoustic comfort when closed, can be retracted in 15 seconds. The fully electric system allows for whisper-quiet opening, and can be operated in speeds up to 31 mph.
Developed with the heart of a sports car, every ounce of the BMW 8 Series Convertible is made to improve performance. The vehicle features a low center of gravity, lightweight materials, an even weight distribution, and a stiff body and chassis.
Buyers have a choice of two engines, both utilizing an ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 840i and 840i xDrive options both provide 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder powerhouses, generating 335 horsepower and capable of going from zero to 60 mph in as little as 4.6 seconds. The M850i xDrive ramps it up to 523 horsepower.
BMW’s distinctive style is visible both on the interior and exterior of the 8 Series Convertible. Features include a low-slung sporty stance with slim LED LaserLight headlights, 19-inch M light alloy wheels, ambient lighting, and leather trim.
The driver-centered cockpit includes a 10.25-inch Central Information Display and BMW Live Cockpit Navigation as standard features. The operating system is fully customizable, and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant allows remote car access and even on-the-road productivity through integration with Microsoft Office 365 and Skype for Business.
Several high-end features are available, including wireless charging, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound, active seat ventilation, and a Heat Comfort package. The 8 Series Convertible also comes with a range of standard driver assistance technology, such as Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning system with City Braking function, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Warning systems, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision warning, and Parking Assistant including Reversing Assistant.
BMW’s 8 Series Convertible has a starting MSRP of $97,400.
